Greatest American Hot Dog

America! Doing the most since 1492 (at least that's the date we're told...what up Amerigo Vespucci?). And almost nothing is more American than a good old fashioned ballpark hot dog. Continuing my search for creative food and off the heels of a weird craving, I came across the Greatest American Hot Dogs. These aren't the "mom came home late and put a few in water dogs", and they're not even the beloved cook-out dogs...these are hot dogs that have reached their final form. I left with two; the Maryland dog: topped with mac and cheese, crab meat and old bay seasoning, and the Florida dog: further cementing my love for breakfast with their bacon wrap and fried egg topping. All this, and I swapped out one of the dogs for a half-smoke, because, well, D.C. reigns supreme.

The location I went to had a down home style that puts you at ease. I hung out with Ani (don't-call-me-Anna), a cheerful young lady working there who helped me pick from nearly 70 regionally inspired dogs. When it comes to creative food, this place takes the bun. I also now know to look out for their food truck roaming the streets. If you see it, make sure to flag it down because you won't be disappointed. I should really follow my cravings more often. Hot dogs aren't just for National Games and poor nutrient choices any more.
